House Transformation : Terrace Terrific
Jose House by Fabian Tan Architect
There's a rather obvious wind of change in house layout trends sweeping through the country in recent times. I could see so many amazing transformation of old terrace houses into phenomenal works of art, evidently the very proof of what marvelous creations architecture could yield when given free reign to be creative with passion in mind.
Old houses are given a new lease on life with a fresh breath of modern industrial aesthetics; sleek, clean, raw, and minimalistic. Boldly real and unpretentious. With a serious dedication to bringing the outdoors in, most of these houses also boast little indoor courtyards with lush green plants and sometimes if space permits, even water features inside. These little courtyards are wonderful as they provide a secluded yard space with privacy, away from prying eyes.
And of course, there is ample natural lighting - a result of genius spatial planning at play. Skylight and large windows are generously used to bring in more natural light into an otherwise dark, enclosed space. The stark, hard-edged look of the interior is toned down by subtle incorporation of plants, wooden furniture, and soft warm lighting in the night time - making the house look sleek, yet homey and cosy. A perfect balance.
Using lofts to separate levels is also another clever way to ensure that natural lighting goes through and gets distributed to the entire house. As a result, the whole house looks so bright, light, and airy.
This house is named Jose House, by Fabian Tan Architect (FTA). It's one of my favourite house transformations so far and I am so in awe at how the simple (yet sleek) outer facade is rather cheekily deceptive of the wonderfully planned layout inside. The house is designed to match the scale of the surrounding houses, which I think is really brilliant. It's like a little secret gem, tucked away only for you.
It also has a roof viewing deck (!!) which is cleverly designed to be unseen from street level. Now that is definitely and absolutely awesometastic.
Browsing through FTA's website, I really think that this is one very talented architect. I am amazed with all of the other projects in the Architecture gallery on their site. Innovative, unconventional, and refreshingly brilliant.
All that aside, how awesome is this little corner? I suppose this is the entryway. If this were my house I could come back home and just sit at the entryway forever.
That gigantic gate is incredible. And I can absolutely imagine myself sitting there reading my books and drinking tea... while I dream my days away in constant determination to procrastinate till the end of time.
Anyway.
All in all, I have a major crush on these transformed houses. And right now, it's a major #housegoal for me, and for most people too I would assume. I so wish more new housing developments would incorporate if not much, just a teeny bit of these concepts into their design, rather than the bleary cookie-cutter, dark, closed spaces of typical homes available on the market. I think it's time to embrace this refreshing new change. Just my two cents though!
For me, a happy house does not have to be big. It just needs to be nice, and beautiful, and cozy...
With ample natural lighting, and preferably lofts and of course indoor courtyards.
Welp. A girl (or adult woman) can dream!
