PERDANA BOTANICAL GARDEN KUALA LUMPUR

A patch of green tropical bliss in the heart of Kuala Lumpur

Are you a big city dweller, living and breathing under the grey skies of this bustling concrete jungle that is Kuala Lumpur? Do you find yourself craving for the lush green of mother nature, its soothing arms enveloping you in a coccoon of rejuvenation?

3 words for you.

Perdana Botanical Garden.

Perdana Botanical Garden Kuala Lumpur, or formerly known as Perdana Lake Garden is an oasis of lush tropical greeneries in immaculately kept parks and gardens. This wonderful patch of green in the heart of Kuala Lumpur was the brainchild of Alfred Venning, the British State Treasurer of Selangor in the late 19th century. The works started in 1888, and the garden was formally opened in 1889, then known as the Public Gardens. It was later renamed Lake Gardens, Perdana Lake Garden, and finally Perdana Botanical Garden.

The garden is located along Jalan Perdana or Venning Road in Kuala Lumpur. It is situated within the Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park, which encompasses stately landmarks and historical buildings such as the National Monument, Putra World Trade Centre, the National Art Gallery, Central Market, and also KLCC. The Perdana Botanical Garden is easily accessible by public busses or taxis from anywhere in the city.

Among other places of interest located near the garden are National Musuem of Malaysia, KL Deer Park, KL Bird Park, and also KL Butterfly Park.

Last saturday, we finally went to the Perdana Botanical Garden. It's just a stone's throw away from our house, but it took us forever to set foot in this place. We usually drive around the outside of the garden, enjoying the fresh air under those big, shady trees lining the roads. But this was our first time to actually explore it.

We set out at about 7.30am and reached the garden around 8.00am. The parking spots near the Royal Lake Club entrance was already full when we got there, so we had to find a spot elsewhere. Luckily, we managed to park near the Comic House entrance.

Needless to say, we enjoyed our time there immensely. We had a good morning stroll, and felt rejuvenated the whole entire day. Speaks volumes on what some fresh air and exercise could do for us. Such a great feeling.

We just walked along the walking trails in the garden, all the while keeping in mind to maintain social distancing and sanitising our hands every once in a while. Had a great time spotting squirrels, dragonflies, butterflies, and a lot of tropical plants that are very much trending on instagram right now. They should have a plant police here just to be safe haha.

It was nice to be in the garden among the huge, looming trees. We really enjoyed the cool, fresh air there. It felt like a little fun adventure, spotting the plants, insects, and animals in the garden. Of course with our stamina equivalent to a snorlax's (read : near non-existent) , we did not cover the whole trek. But we enjoyed what we could, and had a great time nonetheless.

There is also a big playground here but it's currently closed due to the pandemic situation.

After a nice walk, we stopped by the little cafe at the Comic House for some light refreshments before heading home. We had some butter croissants and hot cocoa which were delishh. Happy tummy, happy me.

We would definitely be back here. Looking forward to frequenting this place in the future and probably explore some of the other areas in the garden as well.

I enjoyed taking so many photos here, much to the annoyance of mr husband and mr kid.

Well, I gotta do what I gotta do man.

We were supposed to be back exploring this lush, beautiful gem of a place again today but due to the recent covid developments, we decided not to. Our next visit will have to be postponed hopefully for not too long. Can't wait to explore more of the garden!
