CAMERON HIGHLANDS : BOH SUNGEI PALAS TEA CENTRE

A most wonderful place

Last month when interstate travel restrictions were finally lifted, we grabbed the chance to travel back to our hometowns. It's been almost half a year since we last went back, and it's really important that we finally do.

While we were at it, we thought it would be a great idea to visit Cameron Highlands again, seeing how it's quite close to my hometown in Perak. We planned a day trip there, just to get a whiff of the fresh highlands air.

We thought there would be almost no one there, since we went on a weekday. But boy were we wrong. Well, there were not as many people but there definitely were quite a lot! So we made it a point to stay vigilant, practice social distancing, and donned our masks all the time (except while eating of course).

It was just a simple trip. We stopped by a few shops to buy tea, strawberries, and mostly strolled along the highland roads in the car. It was rejuvenating to be in the cool weather and fresh air.

And of course, a visit to Cameron Highlands would not be complete, without a mandatory pilgrimage up the hills in Sungei Palas Boh tea plantation. The view from there was absolutely breathtaking.

There weren't that many people when we got there, probably because it was later in the afternoon at around 3pm. The tea centre opens from 9am to 4.30pm. We usually visit early in the morning, but this time we had to go in the evening since it was just a day trip.

We sat at this table even it's got an X marked on it because when we arrived, the other tables around it were vacant and it's a good spot. We had a pot for 3 of BOH Seri Songket Earl Grey with Tangerine, a mug of Camomile tea and Strawberry Raspberry tea, a sausage pastry roll, and a raisin scone. That totalled up to about RM35, which I think was a good and decent price for the lot. By the way, the scone was absolutely scrumptious.

Right when we were about to tuck into our tea treats, it started to rain. It was so nice. Sipping a hot cup of my favourite tea on a cool, rainy day in the highlands, sitting next to a window overlooking the lush green plantation and the rolling green hills beyond. It was so refreshing and rejuvenating.

After the wonderful tea time, we headed over to the BOH tea shop there. I bought a few tea selections - a box of SERI SONGKET Earl Grey with Tangerine, BOH Twilight Rooibos in the very pretty tin, stocked up on our BOH teapot bags, BOH Iced Lemon Tea, and also the cute pack of 6 loose SERI SONGKET selections.

We then left the tea centre feeling happy, and warm inside (from the tea. And also from tea shopping at the shop obviously). It was still raining when we trekked down the hill among the great, ancient trees, and it was just so very refreshing and it felt quite magical. It was as if I was being transported back to those old, colonial days; back when these lush hills and forests were still very much untouched and cool and unspoilt.

Anyway, I made a mental note to myself that we should visit in the evenings instead of mornings because by the time we head down after having breakfast there, it would already be around 10ish am and it's usually already quite warm and sunny. Which, would still be lovely but the magic will be gone. That said though... if you were reading this, I would advise that you go in the morning because. Well, just go in the morning ok.

Writing this makes me miss it all over again. Can't wait to visit Cameron Highlands again.
